Dr. Abatzoglou is an associate professor of Geography and has been at the University of Idaho since 2009. John earned his doctoral degree in Earth Systems Science in 2006 from the University of California Irvine after getting his bachelors in Atmospheric Science from the University of California, Davis. Prior to joining the University of Idaho in 2009, he worked at the Western Regional Climate Center in Reno, NV and San Jose State University. His research interests span the weather-climate continuum and both basic and applied scientific questions. He conducts climate related research specific to western North America and is engaged in several aspects of applied climatology and meteorology specific to wildfire and agriculture. John's research portfolio includes better understanding regional projections of climate change and associated impacts across the western United States.
